MOORE, OK — The MPS Transition Team, a passionate group of volunteer educators led by Rachael Laib, Project SEARCH Instructor and Transition Specialist, is working diligently to support students with disabilities as they prepare for life after high school. With a mission to increase positive post-secondary outcomes, the team collaborates with students, families, and teachers to help guide the transition to employment, education, independent living, and community involvement.

On April 10, 2025, the team hosted its annual Transition Resource Fair at Southmoore High School’s College and Career Center. The event welcomed over 80 families and brought together more than 30 community agencies dedicated to supporting individuals with disabilities.

Agencies in attendance included the Department of Rehabilitative Services (DRS), Sooner Success, Dale Rogers Training Center (DRTC), Not Your Average Joe Coffee Shop, Decisive Driver, Welcome Home, Santa Fe Place, and many others. These partners provide critical services ranging from job placement and housing to transportation training and independent living support.

One highlight of the event was the presence of SaberSips, Southmoore High School’s student-run coffee bar. Operated by transition students and guided by teacher Catherine Lockhart and her team, the coffee bar served a wide array of specialty drinks to attendees, showcasing students’ job skills in action.

In addition to the fair, the MPS Transition Team hosts workshops throughout the year covering essential topics such as guardianship, DRS services, adult education programs, and Project SEARCH, a work-based internship program for students with disabilities. These sessions provide families with in-depth knowledge and practical steps to help students prepare for the next stage of life.

Ms. Laib expressed her heartfelt gratitude to the administrative staff at Southmoore High School for their support and generosity in hosting the event for the district's families. “We are incredibly thankful for Southmoore’s hospitality and continued partnership,” she said. “Their support allows us to bring these valuable resources directly to families and students who need them most.”

“Our goal is to provide students and their families with real tools, resources, and connections that lead to confident and successful futures,” Laib added.
